Yee Group has completed its works as part of the £3m refurbishment and remodelling project of the exterior and interior of the main building at Burton and South Derbyshire College on Lichfield Street, Burton on Trent.
Working for Hazlemere Commercial, Burton’s Yee Group successfully delivered their extensive air conditioning scheme to improve the ventilation and air management in the existing facilities across three floors at the college.
Yee Group’s engineers made new installations, upgraded and re-located some 30 a/c units as part of this comprehensive project to improve the energy-efficiency of the building. The introduction of the new insulated curtain walling and re-positioning of windows in 10 rooms, on all three levels, called for a radical solution by Yee Group’s engineers.
Senior Project Manager, Richard Jaggers from Hazlemere Commercial, said, “For this complex and demanding project, Yee Group undertook the development and installation of an innovative air-conditioning and heat-recovery system that employs electrically-operated venting and temperature controls.
“Providing a high-quality teaching and educational environment in the newly refurbished rooms and laboratories was critical. Yee Group introduced an advanced Mitsubishi system that is fully compatible and compliant with the demands of the surveyors’ state-of-the-art scheme.
“The new a/c system was particularly important as it has effectively replaced existing opening windows and delivers superior ventilation and heating to meet the changing demands within the rooms and specialist laboratories throughout the seasons. It is a far more efficient solution and meets the goals set by CTG Surveyors on this complicated project”.
The contractor combined its air conditioning works with associated electrical installation of LED lighting to the exterior as a specialist supplier to the College.
Yee Group project-managed their full package of works and installations, delivered by its multi discipline team.
“In addition to the air-conditioning system, our engineers installed new dry-risers around the entire main building as the curtain walling was being installed”, pointed out Yee Group MD, Simon Chapman.
“The new plant for the a/c system was installed on the roof of the building as the works progressed. The advantage of this location is such that it makes all the equipment easier to access by our engineers for servicing; and also for the College’s maintenance teams”.
These works in Phase 1 at the college were completed on schedule enabling the new teaching areas and classrooms to be occupied as planned.
